Sixto Rodriguez - I wonder
Some nice tunes from Sixto Rodriguez, the person that the film ‘Searching for Sugar Man’ is about.
It’s kind of a funny story (Trailer)
I decided to just stay in tonight and watch this movie. I liked it a lot, showing the change and self-discovery a 16 year old boy undergoes while in psychiatric treatment.
And although this is just a movie it is an ode to life, demanding us to appreciate the small and often assumed things that probably most of us have compared to others; to not let yourself down or put yourself under pressure for things that are not indispensable to life but that others expect from us just because it is what they used to/are longing for. I often think we are creating our problems ourselves, because we are off too good, too wealthy and overlooking the things we take for granted. Until we realize they are not self-evident.
Say your beloved ones you love them. Be grateful for the chances you are provided with. Use them but remember to be yourself. Make a list with things you want to do and stick to it instead of giving up some things as they seem to be impossible - they are not. Seize the opportunities. Try to not overlook but value the small things that happen to you everyday. And remember to leave your comfort zone and get out. Experience the world.
Live life.
Efterklang is about to release their 4th album on September 24th. This is the trailer and I am really excited, I have to say!
Just found out that our local indie cinema is going to show “Yo, también” next Sunday and friends are playing a concert in the same location right before. Gonna be awesome! - Let’s just hope that I’ll finish my take home exam before as the deadline is set to 10pm next Sunday…
Plus I had a great night with my friends last night just having dinner, playing board games and talking all evening long. This afternoon we’re going to the theatre and afterwards having a fika (which is Swedish for any kind of meeting friends, talking, having coffee/tea/beer/whatever and just hanging out).
My next three months up here are going to be packed although I’ll be done with all my classes by the 8th of May. Yay - life is awesome! :)
Milk (Trailer)
Yesterday I met with a friend and we decided to watch ‘Milk’. I didn’t expect that much but it turned out to be a very inspiring movie telling the story of Harvey Bernard Milk. An American politician who became the first openly gay man to be elected to public office in California when he won a seat on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.
The autobiographic film shows the last eight years of his life as he got politically involved and stopped hiding his sexual orientation. It is also a movie that shows how a small group of people sharing a vision, sharing hope and believing in that they can make a difference, can change things. It shows how a grassroots movement turns into something more influential and gets involved into politics.
I also like how the producers combined original video footage from the 1970s with their own. - If you have about two hours of time… I encourage you to watch this movie!
“I know that you cannot live on hope alone, but without it, life is not worth living. And you… And you… And you… Gotta give em hope.” (Harvey Bernard Milk, 1930 - 1978)
